Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering is the primary field of engineering concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. It has two major and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Avionics engineering is similar, but deals with the electrical side of aerospace engineering.

1 Month Module

Week 1

Introduction: design requirements, phases of design, project management Anatomy of aerospace vehicles (fixed wing, rotary wing and spacecraft) Basic definitions: lift, drag, aspect ratio and specific fuel consumption

Week 2

  • Weight fraction estimates, sensitivity analysis.
  • Aircraft geometry: airfoil, wing and empennage geometry selection
  • Avionics: Communication & Navigation equipment, Mission equipment

Week3

  • Introduction to aircraft dynamics (pure rolling motion) general equations of motion (Euler angles, rotation matrix, six degrees of freedom equations)
  • Stability augmentation system, PID control, lateral modes (spiral convergence, Dutch roll, roll), autopilot (wing leveler)

Week 4

Air vehicle Design and Analysis, Avionics design and development
